Alginate Wound Dressing

Alginate dressing is an absorbent dressing for moist wounds. It comprises biodegradable, highly absorbent alginate fiber derived from seaweed and is available in flat and rope patterns. In contact with exudate, these alginate wound dressings form a moist gel through ion exchange. The dressings are soft, conformable, and easy to apply in the cavity or irregular-shaped wounds. In addition, Alginate dressing enjoys excellent absorption and a good gel-forming effect. The alginate dressing, consisting of calcium alginate, provides superior absorption and is ideally designed for all moderate to heavy exuding wounds, both superficial and cavity. The alginate wound dressing provides an ideal moist environment for healing and relieving wound pain.

Winner Medical alginate dressing is a groundbreaking innovation in advanced wound care, utilizing alginate as a critical material. It boasts excellent hydrophilic and biocompatible properties, ideal for treating moist wounds. The alginate dressings are easily removable, creating a sterile and moist environment conducive to effective wound healing.

  • Q.

How does the alginate dressing works?

    A.

When in contact with wound exudate, calcium ions in the dressing exchange with sodium ions in the exudate, causing the dressing to transform from a dry, fibrous state to a firm, moist gel. The alginate wound dressing provides a moist environment helping to create optimal wound-healing conditions and maintaining its integrity, allowing for easy, atraumatic removal.

  • Q.

What are the major clinical benefits of using the alginate dressing?

    A.

A.Absorbs, a large amount of exudate, enhances wear time and reduces dressing change frequency. Alginate fiber transforms to gel after absorbing exudate, reducing the maceration risk. It does not adhere to the wound site and can be easily removed without pain or trauma. In addition, the unique sterile wound dressing integrity makes for one-piece removal.

  • Q.

How to use the alginate dressing?

    A.

Carefully cleanse the wound with saline and dry surrounding skin. Alginate dressing should be folded or cut to the shape of the wound and applied dry directly. The Alginate dressing should then be covered with appropriate moisture retentive secondary dressing such as, but not limited to, Non-woven dressings, Film dressing, Hydrocolloid dressing, or Foam dressing onto the wound.
